DTF Closing
filed in Uncategorized

I have come to a decision to close DTF. Its been a great 5 years, I met DT, went to many events, made some new friends, but I no longer have the time to update the site. I find it a chore to do so and when that happens its time to stop. Thanks to all the visitors.

Winner of Kingston-led scheme rubs shoulders with David Tennant
filed in Appearances

Chloe Armstrong of The Connaught School, Aldershot, was a winner in the seminal Reading Force campaign organised within the Aldershot area in 2011. Reading Force aims to link Forces families separated by postings and associated training through reading the same book, and families taking part were given scrapbooks in which to share and record their thoughts. Completed scrapbooks were then submitted to Kingston University for feedback and the awarding of prizes. Chloe’s prize was to attend the recording by David Tennant for Penguin Books on behalf of the Ian Fleming estate, this kindly arranged by audio publishers Strathmore, who also created the scrapbooks.

Gerald Howarth, MP for Aldershot, and Minister for International Security Strategy, described Reading Force as ‘a wonderful and practical way of keeping families in touch.’ The initial scheme, devised and run by Alison Baverstock, Course Leader for Kingston’s MA Publishing and Hattie Gordon, former MA Publishing student, has just been awarded funding by the MOD’s Directorate for Children and Young People and next year will expand into Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. The initial team will be joined by Cathy Schofield, director of World Book Day 2000 – 2011 and a member of the Kingston Publishers’ Advisory Board.

Dame Jacqueline Wilson said of the scheme: ‘I think Reading Force is a great idea – a brilliant way of uniting families and sharing the joys of reading.’

The awards also recognise drama which has been broadcast online.

Among the plays nominated for best online only audio drama are Rock by Tim Fountain, produced by Made in Manchester for the the Independent Online, and Wild Hackney for the Hackney Podcast.

A production of Terence Rattigan’s Flare Path broadcast on Radio 3 garnered two nominations – Rory Kinnear in the best actor category and Rupert Penry-Jones for best supporting actor.

Dan Allum’s Atching Tan has made the shortlist for the best radio drama script 2010 by a new writer, with Candis Nergaard in the running for best actress in the play.

There are different judging panels for each of the 10 categories.

David marries Georgia
filed in news

DOCTOR Who star David Tennant was all smiles yesterday after getting married – to the daughter of former Time Lord Peter Davison.

David and bride Georgia Moffett strolled hand-in-hand in London wearing their wedding rings just a day after getting hitched.

The pair met when Georgia, 27, played Doctor Who’s cloned daughter Jenny on the showin 2008.

Her parents in real life are actress Sandra Dickinson and Davison, who played the fifth Doctor Who between 1982 and 1984.

David and Georgia have an eight-month-old baby daughter called Olive and have been making wedding plans since David proposed last Christmas.

Georgia is also mum to her nine-year-old son Tyler.

Only family and close friends were invited to the wedding, on Friday night in London.

It is not known if David’s dad, retired Church of Scotland minister Dr Sandy McDonald, took part in the ceremony. The actor’s mum Helen died from cancer in 2007.

And yesterday the couple went for a stroll with David, who grew up in Ralston, Renfrewshire, dressed in a Doctor Who-style long coat and scarf.

Meanwhile bleary-eyed guests were seen coming and going from the couple’s detached Chiswick home, and the newlyweds were expected to celebrate their wedding with a party last night.

Peter, 60, has spoken in the past of how he approves of 40-year-old David, who starred as the tenth Time Lord between 2005 and 2010.

He said: “It’s great because David is a genuinely nice guy.

“I’m delighted Georgia has found happiness because she hasn’t always had an easy life.”

Georgia, who has also played DI Samantha Nixon’s daughter Abigail in The Bill, moved in with Where the Heart Is co-star Adam Harvey in 2004 but they split after two years.

David has denied he had a string of romances before meeting Georgia.

He said: “I have had girlfriends but my bedpost has very few notches compared with other actors. I have never overdone it.”

David Tennant voices Chitty Chitty Bang Bang sequel
filed in Project News

Doctor Who star David Tennant has lent his voice to a new audio download of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Flies Again.

The star was asked by the family of James Bond author Ian Fleming, who penned the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang story, to voice the audio book.

Novelist Frank Cottrell Boyce’s sequel about the magical flying car, was first published in October.

Fleming’s niece said Tennant’s voice brought the story to life with a “wry humour and great characterisation”.

Lucy Fleming said: “We are thrilled that David agreed to read the audio book. He is such a talented actor and his voice brings Frank Cottrell Boyce’s story to life.

“Chitty could not have been in safer hands with him behind the wheel.”

An interview between Ms Fleming and Tennant has also been released, along with the download.

Tennant described the story as “very clever, slightly surreal and hugely readable”.

During the interview, Ms Fleming and Tennant also discuss the James Bond connections that Boyce wrote into the story in tribute to Fleming.

The writer created Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which was adapted into a film in 1968 – four years after his death, as a bedtime story for his son.

It has also since become a hit on the West End stage.

The famous flying car is the only original character in the sequel, which is the first of three books that have been commissioned

The Guardian’s John Lacey reviewed the story earlier this year, and said it was “much funnier and more engaging than Fleming’s original novel”.
